Black Jackal BrigadeThe Black Jackal Brigade, often just called "The Black Jackals" is a mercenary company active in the Kingdom of Izendorn? and Kingdom of Stonegate. Founded in the late 590's and originally based out of Ashton, they are a mercenary company frequently employed by the governments of the lands they visit. The Black Jackals originally functioned as the city guard of Ashton before Ashton joined Stonegate, and they continued to fill that role to a lesser extent for some time afterward. In recent years the presence of the Black Jackals in Stonegate has dwindled as more members of the Jackals have emigrated to Izendorn and started a large contingent there. The way the Black Jackals are organized, the contingent in each kingdom is semi-independent from the other. The motto of the Black Jackal Brigade is "Honor Shadows All". Table of Ranks
Jackal Chain and MedallionIn addition to conventional ranks, the version of the Jackal insignia worn by each member denotes status. Every member of the Black Jackal Brigade wears a red circular medallion with a black silhouette of a jackal head on a chain around their neck. Those Jackals who have been with the Brigade the longest , wear a gold chain and are informally called "Gold Chain Jackals" and afforded a great deal of respect by fellow Jackals regardless of rank. Those who have extensive service but who are not a longtime veteran wear their insignia on a silver chain, while newer recruits who have not served for years with the Jackals wear their insignia on a black chain. |
