Emurian EmpireThe Emurian Empire is a harsh and totalitarian Empire in what is now the Principality of Emuria? in the Kingdom of Stonegate. Emuria, from it's initial settlement in the early 500's until 592 ER, was a loose confederation of city-states and freeholds. In 592, Cornelius became Lord of Ironholm and began to unify the various petty warlords and local Lords under his leadership. By 594 he officially declared himself "Emperor of the Emurian Empire" and unveiled his "Iron Codes", a ruthless and draconian code of laws, as his means of maintaining absolute control over his realm. He placed the blame for all the ills of Emuria upon the Dyllerians and the Kingdom of Stonegate within Dylleria, and had the declared intent of conquering Dylleria and eventually uniting all known lands under the Emurian flag. Through a system of regional Governors, Lieutenant Governors and Magistrates he created a strict and unyielding Empire. However, the tradition in Emuria of local rulership and a lack of distant rulers meant there was much resistance to Cornelius. Petty rebellions appeared but were quickly quashed. In 598 however, the city of Ashton expelled it's Emurian rulers and declared independence. It managed to hold it's independence for two years before joining the Kingdom of Stonegate, and was the center of organized rebellion against the Emurian Empire. In 601, Cornelius died in his bathtub under mysterious circumstances. Without his central rulership, the Emurian Empire quickly crumbled. Governors and Lieutenant Governors fought for power, while Stonegate took advantage of the anarchy to conquer most of Emuria and liberate it from the Iron Codes. However, the Emurian Empire was not completely dead, several cities in north-central Emuria: Ironholm, Corliss and Vargus? did not affiliate with Stonegate and became a haven for Imperial officials seeking to rebuild the Empire. Razik Starger, the most powerful of the surviving Imperial officials, has crowned himself "Emperor of the Single Star" and leads a group called the "New Empire" which attempts to rebuild the Emurian Empire, using the Free Cities as a base of operations. |
